What to Look for When Choosing an Electric SUV

Before comparing models it helps to understand the key specs that matter. Battery capacity determines range. Charging speed affects how fast you can get back on the road. Motor power (hp or kW) influences acceleration and performance especially on highways. Then there are features like safety tech, infotainment, warranty and after sales service. Finally price ex showroom plus incentives can make or break the deal.

Price Segments & Who They Suit

Budget & Mid-Budget Segment (₹18-₹28 lakh): Mahindra BE 6 and Harrier EV offer excellent range, solid tech and are ideal for buyers who want high utility without ultra-premium pricing.
Upper Mid & Premium Segment (₹30-₹45 lakh and above): Models like Volvo EX30 target buyers who want luxury, brand value and advanced features in a compact luxury form.
Value Segment with Feature Focus: Models like VinFast VF6 / VF7 are carving a niche with good range and feature list at slightly lower premium pricing making them worth consideration for many buyers.

Comparison: Range Performance vs Practical Use

Range on paper is only one part of the story. If you drive daily in traffic with AC on or frequently take highway drives in hilly terrain the range will drop. Fast charging network access becomes more important for longer trips. Also check warranty on battery life number of years or kilometres. For example Harrier EV AWD gives strong highway range but may cost more to maintain than a simpler RWD model. Volvo EX30 offers premium features but its service network and cost of spare parts will matter over long-term ownership.

Features to Watch

Modern electric SUVs bring not just range and price but also value through features. Key features to compare are:

Safety tech such as ADAS, multiple airbags, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring.
Infotainment options including large touchscreens, wireless Android Auto / Apple CarPlay.
Charging capability including DC fast charging and whether the vehicle supports home charging.
Battery warranty and after sales service.
Comfort features: cabin quality, climate control, premium sound system and materials.

Government Incentives & Ownership Costs

India offers incentives like FAME II subsidies and state level subsidies which can significantly lower the effective cost for the buyer. Also keep in mind running costs: electricity price, maintenance savings, insurance premiums and resale value. Some EV SUVs may have high initial cost but lower cost of ownership over time due to fewer moving parts and lower fuel costs.

Conclusion

2025 is an exciting year for electric SUVs in India. From Mahindra BE 6 offering long range and value pricing to Volvo EX30 raising the bar for premium compact EVs and newer names like VinFast making good strides there is something for every buyer. When choosing your EV SUV consider range matched to your daily use charging infrastructure in your region total cost of ownership and features that matter most to you. With so many excellent choices now available getting the right electric SUV has never been more possible.
